Sendero GPS Training Description and Pricing
Sendero Group and its members have over 30 years of combined GPS experience, developing, testing and teaching Atlas, GPS-Talk and BrailleNote GPS. Founder, Mike May, has been working on this technology since 1994 and has trained and demonstrated literally to thousands of people worldwide. Co-founder, Charles LaPierre has been developing accessible GPS software since 1993. Gil Lutz, Ohio, has been testing and training on GPS since 1999. Kim Casey has been testing and training with GPS since 2000. Carl Simmons, East Bay CA, is versed in BrailleNote as well as mainstream GPS products. Michael Beukenkamp, Texas, has been a user, trainer and presenter since 2002. This core training team, 5 of who are visually impaired, plus a growing number of other Sendero trainers, is your ultimate resource for accessible GPS products and training. Sendero specializes in wayfinding technologies and in the BrailleNote. In addition to the GPS application, Sendero trainers train on all BrailleNote applications. "We specialize in portable information systems and are therefore not diluted by the multitude of adaptive products." If you want top of the line BrailleNote or GPS presentations, demonstrations or training, you will get this from the Sendero team. BrailleNote GPS Overview SessionThis overview session is 2 hours in length consisting of from 45 minutes to one hour for a presentation and questions. It is followed by hands-on exposure to the BrailleNote GPS in indoor Virtual and outdoor GPS situations for one hour. We prefer to take no more than 5 people at a time on GPS tours. If there is a large group, we can take people in 15-minute segments. Those not on the walk, can play with units in the Virtual mode while waiting their turn. For groups larger than 20, we recommend that 2 Sendero staff be present. IIn this session, attendees become familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of GPS technology in the context of the BrailleNote. User stories will illustrate the situations where GPS was particularly helpful. Immediate examples will be given using the Virtual mode on the BrailleNote. BrailleNote GPS Individual TrainingIndividual training is tailored to the skill level and desired pace of the user. This should ideally be done in sessions of four hours or less, preferably 2 hours if logistics allow. Training typically starts out with an overview and then moves to learning and using the GPS while riding in a vehicle. The trainee should focus on the GPS without using a mobility tool when first learning the system. Advance sessions will move on to using the GPS while walking, first sighted guide and then with one's mobility device. We recommend four 3-hour sessions depending upon the user's proficiency with the BrailleNote. We will spend time with the user on the BrailleNote as well if desired. Two or three hours of free training is included with the purchase of a VoiceNote, BrailleNote combined with a GPS. See the conditions at the bottom of this document. BrailleNote GPS Beginner Group TrainingWe can accommodate up to 12 people in a beginning group session. The progression is much the same as the individual training but the pace is geared toward beginners. It is important that the attendees have appropriate keyboarding skills. The equipment available for training must be able to be operated by the users in terms of QWERTY or Braille keyboards. We recommend a 3-hour morning and afternoon session. We also recommend an additional day of training for members of the group who want to advance further and to solidify what they have learned. BrailleNote Advanced GPS TrainingIt is important that participants have attended a fairly recent training session and/or be a BrailleNote GPS user. Advanced training can be done for individuals or compatible groups of 5 or less per trainer. The content of this training will include outdoor GPS exploration as well as learning the more complex details of the software and navigation. A GPS treasure hunt can be conducted to expand the abilities of attendees. Advanced sessions can also be geared toward certifying attendees as GPS trainers.
